Bath and the Cotswolds—9 day tour

This tour visits some of the most outstanding landscapes and cities of southern England. From the gently rolling Cotswold hills, with villages that are so quintessentially English, to the historic university city of Oxford and the World Heritage city of Bath, with its ancient Roman relics and elegant Georgian architecture. A tour of London’s highlights is also included.

Day 1 London

Arrival at one of London’s airports. Meet and greet by a professional London guide who will accompany us by motor coach on a panoramic sightseeing tour of London. The tour will pass iconic landmarks including Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament and Buckingham Palace.

Day 2 London

Today our guide takes us on an in-depth tour of London. Highlights include a ‘flight’ on the London Eye, a tour of Westminster Abbey, a cruise on the River Thames, a pub lunch and admission to the Tower of London. We may also want to experience a journey on the tube, a ride on a red double decker bus or a visit to one of the city’s museums, many of which are free to enter. Tonight a pre-theatre dinner and tickets to a top West End performance, with private transfers, are included.

Day 3 Oxford – Blenheim Palace

Leaving London our first stop is the university city of Oxford. A local guide takes us on a walking tour, which will include a visit to one of the historic colleges. There are many famous people associated with Oxford such as Lewis Carroll, C.S. Lewis or even Lyra and Will for fans of Philip Pullman. Afternoon visit to the World Heritage Site of Blenheim Palace, home of the Duke of Marlborough and birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. Continue to our hotel in the Cotswolds.

Day 4 Cotswolds

Spend the day exploring the villages in this area of outstanding natural beauty. Visit the market town of Bourton-on-the-Water, the antique hunters’ paradise of Stow-on-the-Wold and Chipping Campden, one of the region’s prettiest towns. A visit to the stunning gardens of Hidcote Manor is included, plus a quintessential English afternoon tea in one of the quaint local tearooms.

Day 5 Cotswolds – Gloucester - Bath

Travelling southwest we journey via the Regency spa town of Cheltenham to Gloucester. Here we find Roman foundations, Victorian docklands and the magnificent Norman Cathedral rubbing shoulders with a modern city centre. Late afternoon arrival in Bath.

Day 6 Bath

This morning meet a local guide for a tour of this glorious city, another World Heritage Site. It is unique with its hot springs, Roman Baths, splendid Abbey and Georgian stone crescents that have attracted visitors for centuries. After visiting the Roman Baths there is time at leisure to explore the many other delights of this city.

Day 7 Bath - Wells - Glastonbury

Today’s full day excursion travels through the beautiful Somerset countryside to Wells, England’s smallest cathedral city. Following a guided tour of the Cathedral we take the short journey to the mystical town of Glastonbury. Here we can visit the Abbey, find out about the legendary King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table or, for the more energetic, climb to the top of Glastonbury Tor.

Day 8 Bath – Stonehenge – Avebury – London

Journeying east, along pretty country roads, we reach the mysterious area of Wiltshire associated with ancient stone circles. Here we visit the sites of Stonehenge and Avebury before returning to London by mid-afternoon.

Group transfer to the airport. We will be pleased to tailor your tour to suit your preferred arrival and departure airports.
