Jacobite Steam Train on Glenfinnan Viaduct

Coast to Coast and the 'Jacobite Express'

This exciting two-centre tour provides the perfect opportunity to explore the wonderful scenery of the west coast of Scotland, the delights of the east coast and so much in between.

Fyvie Castle • Glenlivet Distillery • Cairngorms • Fort William • Jacobite 'Express' • Oban

Day 1 Travel to Scotland with overnight stop in the borders area.

Day 2 Continue north with a visit to Perth, Dundee or St Andrews. Time allowing, stop in Arbroath to see the famous smokies, or the pretty harbour town of Stonehaven before arriving in Aberdeen, your base for 3 nights.

Day 3 This morning is at leisure in the 'Granite City'. Spend time in the historic merchant quarter, or relax in one of the many parks and award winning gardens. After lunch, venture to the busy harbour for a short cruise to see the oil industry support vessels up close. Before returning to the hotel, see the small fishing village of 'Fittee' and stop at the Torry Battery viewpoint, where visitors have a good opportunity to see dolphins feeding.

Day 4 Journey to Royal Deeside with visits to Banchory and the lovely resort village of Ballater. Travel towards the Lecht before heading to Fyvie Castle for an included visit. This is an extraordinary Baronial fortress with lavish interiors and a world famous art collection, with its own ghosts, legends and folklore.

Day 5 Depart Aberdeenshire today, but not before a tour and tasting at the Glenlivet Distillery. Spend time in the highland resort of Aviemore before continuing through the Cairngorms National Park to Fort William, your base for 3 nights.

Day 6 The highlight of the tour for many will be today's journey on the West Highland Railway's Jacobite Steam Train, regarded as one of the most spectacular railway journeys in the world. The journey begins in the shadow of Ben Nevis at Fort William and winds its way across the countryside, over the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct (made famous in the Harry Potter films) to Mallaig, a busy fishing port where time at leisure can be enjoyed before hopping back on board for the return journey.

Day 7 A full day to Oban, the picturesque fishing town known as the 'Seafood Capital of Scotland'. Stroll along the esplanade, spend time in the shops or for the more adventurous, take a walk up the hill to experience the wonderful views from McCaig's Tower.

Day 8 Depart Fort William for overnight stop in the borders area.

Day 9 Homeward journey.
