Carpet Gardens, Eastbourne

Elegant Eastbourne

Often referred to as the sunniest place in Great Britain and nestled at the foot of the South Downs, Eastbourne has been attracting holiday makers since Victorian times. With its colourful promenades, sandy beaches, Victorian pier, quaint shopping streets and rich history, it is not hard to understand why. In addition to plenty of time in resort, this tour includes a visit to vibrant Brighton, as well as a number of well known and popular market and seaside towns.

Eastbourne • Sussex Coast • Vibrant Brighton • Battle • Rye • Hastings • Bexhill on Sea

Day 1 Travel to your hotel in Eastbourne where tea/coffee on arrival awaits.

Day 2 Travel east along the Sussex Heritage Coast to Beachy Head, the UK's highest chalk sea cliff. On then to Seaford and Newhaven before arriving in Brighton for time at leisure. Originally a fishing village, Brighton is now a vibrant city with a cosmopolitan air. See the Royal Pavilion; the spectacular seaside palace of Prince Regent (George IV) and the famous Brighton Pier (admission can be arranged at an additional cost). If time allows, return to hotel via Lewes, with its impressive Norman Castle.

Day 3 Visit the charming market town of Battle, which took its name from the famous Battle of Hastings. On then to the flourishing market town of Rye, whose rich history is very much in evidence. This afternoon, travel to Hastings, home to the remains of the first castle in England to be built by William the Conqueror. Finally, on to the timeless Edwardian seaside town of Bexhill on Sea which is also the birthplace of British motor racing.

Day 4 At leisure in Eastbourne. Alternatively, for an additional charge, a visit to Sheffield Park Gardens and a ride on the Bluebell Railway can be included.

Day 5 Homeward journey.
