In the Footsteps of Pope John Paul II

From a base in Kraków, a city which has strong connections with Pope John Paul II and the only city in the world that includes places that cover almost his entire life; pilgrims can follow in the footsteps of Pope John Paul II and visit his former residences, churches that marked his history and the Bishop's Palace, where he resided on each of his pilgrimages to Kraków.

Day 1 Fly to Kraków where you will be met by your guide and transferred to the hotel.

Day 2 Take a guided tour of the city, including the Bishop's Palace in which the Holy Father Pope John Paul II resided during his pilgrimages to Kraków; St. Mary's Church where John Paul II used to give sermons and listen to confessions and Wawel Cathedral where Bishop Karol Wojtyła used to go to sing Christmas carols.

Day 3 Visit Wadowice, hometown of Karol Wojtyła; see the Basilica and the old building of his secondary school; visit Pope's Family House, a museum of his life and work; and drop in at St. Peter's Church to try child Pope's favourite cakes. On the way back to Kraków pray at the Shrine of Kalwaria Zebrzydowska, which he visited many times and stop off at the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy in Łagiewniki.

Day 4 Travel to Czestochowa, where John Paul II stayed six times. Jasna Góra 'Bright Mount' is the most important Marian shrine in Poland; its focal point is the chapel and its miraculous icon of the Black Madonna.

Day 5 Visit Zakopane, in the Tatra Mountains. Take a funicular train ride to the top of Mount Gubałówka and enjoy a panoramic view. Visit the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima built as a votive offering of thanks for saving the Pope's life after an assassination attempt in 1981.

Day 6 Today visit the village of Mogiła and its Cistercian Monastery, which the Pope visited in 1979. Pray in the Ark of the Lord Church in Bienczyce, constructed with the help of Karol Wojtyła and the people of Nowa Huta.

Day 7 Transfer to Kraków airport for the return flight to the UK.
