Montenegro was once a fashionable tourist destination, known as the 'Hidden Pearl of the Mediterranean'. Lord Byron said of it, "When pearls of nature were sown, it was with a full hand that they were cast on this soil". In the years since the Balkan wars, the republic has slowly returned to normality and welcomes visitors once more. Its attractions include the beautiful Adriatic coastline facing Italy, historic villages, old markets, UNESCO World Heritage Sites and stunning mountain scenery.
