North York Moors Railway
Scarborough, Whitby and the North York Moors
Scarborough has retained the charm and style established in its Victorian heyday. Its elegant architecture, many interesting little shops and attractive gardens make it a resort to relax and potter in. Nearby, the North York Moors National Park provides a beautiful contrast with spectacular viewpoints and visitor attractions.

Day 1 Journey north to the Victorian seaside resort of Scarborough, with a recommended stop in historic York en route. York boasts numerous places of interest including the Jorvik Centre, the Railway Museum and York Minster.
Day 2 Today is free to explore Scarborough. Alternatively, if travelling July-September, why not include an excursion to York on the Spa Express Steam Railway. Additional cost applies.
Day 3 Travel first to the attractive town of Pickering to board the North York Moors Railway for a nostalgic journey through the North York Moors National Park. Disembark at Grosmont, then transfer by coach to Goathland, which is famous as ‘Aidensfield' in the popular Heartbeat TV series and more recently as Hogsmeade in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Rejoin the coach and continue to the lovely fishing port of Whitby. A local guide joins today's excursion.
Day 4 Optional visit to the Ryedale Folk Museum at Hutton-Le-Hole, tracing the history of the area going back 2,000 years. Continue to Thirsk, which was home to the legendary vet who wrote under the pseudonym of James Herriot. His surgery is now open as a fascinating visitor centre tracing his life.
Day 5 Homeward journey.
