Dunoon from Gourock

Scotland's South West Coast and Islands

We are pleased to offer the opportunity to enjoy the ultimate in west coast scenery, along with a spot of island hopping. The tour bases are charming and the variety of ferry crossings afford panoramic views of the wonderful coastline and offshore islands.

Isle of Bute • Benmore Botanic Garden • Mount Stuart • Isle of Arran • Brodick Castle • Burns Museum

Day 1 Travel to the hotel in Dunoon.

Day 2 Enjoy a morning at leisure in Dunoon, a traditional seaside resort with panoramic views across the Clyde. This afternoon visit Benmore Botanic Garden, set in the mountains of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. Highlights include the great Redwood Avenue, the Formal Garden and the Chilean Rainforest Glade.

Day 3 Take the morning crossing to Gourock, then the short crossing to the Isle of Bute. Enjoy a scenic tour of the island with a stop at Mount Stuart, an outstanding, flamboyant Victorian and Gothic style mansion with beautiful gardens within a 300 acre estate. Continue around the island allowing for photo stops at the stunning bays of Scalpsie and Ettrick. Depart Bute on a late afternoon crossing to Colintraive, passing Lochs Striven and Tarsan before arriving back in Dunoon.

Day 4 An early start today to include an excursion to the Isle of Arran, beginning with an included visit to Brodick Castle. Dramatically set against the backdrop of Goatfell, the grand red sandstone, baronial-style castle has stunning views over Brodick Bay and boasts impressive gardens. Spend time in Brodick before re-boarding the ferry back to the mainland and your hotel in Irvine.

Day 5 A leisurely day today, we recommend a visit to Troon, with its sandy beaches, beautiful views and bustling harbour. Walk along the esplanade or visit the charming cafes and boutiques. On to Ayr for free time, before an included visit to the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum and Burns Cottage. Learn about 'Scotland's favourite son' and his journey from humble beginnings to becoming one of the world's best known poets.

Day 6 Homeward journey.
