Lake Windermere

The Lake District

Follow in the footsteps of William Wordsworth as you explore the beautiful Lake District. Wordsworth was inspired by the beauty and grandeur of this National Park and you can witness the same spectacular sights on our tour of Cumbria, which includes a cruise on Lake Windermere and a visit to Rydal Mount.

Grasmere • Dove Cottage • Rydal Mount • Lake Windermere • William Wordsworth • Kendal

Day 1 Travel to Cumbria with a recommended trip on the Lancaster Canal between Lancaster and Carnforth en-route. Please contact us for further details.

Day 2 First stop this morning is Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth Museum in Grasmere. Dove Cottage was home to the romantic poet William Wordsworth and where he wrote many of his famous poems. Time at leisure in Grasmere, before continuing on to Rydal Mount and Gardens in the afternoon. The Wordsworth family moved into Rydal Mount in 1813 and rented the house continually for 46 years until the death of Mary Wordsworth in 1859. The garden contains a wide variety of rare shrubs and trees, and has spectacular views towards both Lake Windermere and Rydal Water.

Day 3 No visit to the Lake District would be complete without a lake cruise. Head to Lake Windermere and join a relaxing 30 minute cruise to Bowness. After disembarking, explore this popular holiday village at leisure. There are cafes, restaurants, shops and places to visit, such as the World of Beatrix Potter attraction.

Day 4 Spend the day admiring the scenery of the Lake District. Start with a lovely drive past Windermere towards Ullswater. Continue on to the delightful town of Keswick, which is surrounded by some of the area's highest and most beautiful peaks. In the afternoon head towards Ambleside and back to the hotel.

Day 5 Homeward journey.
