Magical Mayo

We base our tour in Ballina, the largest town in Co. Mayo, on the banks of the River Moy. From here, explore the rugged landscape of the Wild Atlantic Way, the Wild Nephin National Park and the county's rich historical heritage dating from prehistoric times to the present.

Strokestown • Westport • Wild Nephin National Park • Foxford Woollen Mill • Ballycroy

Day 1 Afternoon ferry crossing and overnight near Dublin.

Day 2 Onward journey to Ballina, with a stop at the National Famine Museum at Strokestown, signifying a tragic but fascinating chapter of Irish history.

Day 3 A long but worthwhile day. Venture for time at leisure in the Georgian town of Westport before relishing some of Mayo's most spectacular scenery. Head to Mulranny, perched on the Wild Atlantic Way; up to Corraun with dramatic views across to Achill Island. Loop back to Mulranny and the Claggan Mountain Coastal Trail for a visit to Ballycroy Visitors Centre and the unspoilt wilderness of Wild Nephin National Park.

Day 4 Your guide for the day brings the heritage of Co. Mayo to life. See the Killala Roundtower and enjoy admission to the remarkable Céide Fields Visitor Centre, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Visit Belmullet, along the impressive coast with sandy beaches before heading back to Ballina via Bangor Erris, on the banks of the Owenmore River. Our tour price includes the services of a local coach and driver today, while your driver has a rest day.

Day 5 Start the day at Foxford Woollen Mill, founded in 1892 by an Irish nun, with an introduction to a century of manufacturing and craftsmanship. Take time to browse before visiting the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life. Here, immerse yourself in Ireland's rural past but recent way of life and the Victorian Gothic mansion which overlooks gardens and parkland.

Day 6 Travel to Dublin with an afternoon at leisure before continuing to overnight hotel.

Day 7 Morning ferry and homeward journey.
