Scottish Coast and Castles

The east coast of Scotland is known for its pretty beaches, charming fishing villages and historic castles. The west coast, on the other hand, boasts rugged, dramatic landscapes and a more moody, wild beauty. This tour provides the perfect opportunity to experience both.

Angus Coastline • House of Dun • Glamis Castle • Isle of Bute • Mount Stuart

Day 1 Travel north to Montrose, your base for 2 nights.

Day 2 Today, discover the elegant Georgian House of Dun where costumed guides lead you through this country house and its fascinating history. Following this visit, continue along the Angus coastline for a picturesque drive to Stonehaven, where Dunnottar Castle stands dramatically on the cliffs just south of the town. Alternatively take some time to explore Montrose at your own pace.

Day 3 Depart for journey west to the lovely island of Bute. En-route, stop at Glamis Castle for a guided tour of the majestic childhood home of HM Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. Explore the castle and gardens before travelling onwards to Wemyss Bay for late afternoon ferry and the short hop to Rothesay, your base for 2 nights.

Day 4 Enjoy a relaxing morning before departing for a scenic tour of the island including admission to Mount Stuart, an outstanding and flamboyant Victorian, Gothic style mansion with beautiful gardens within a 300 acre estate. Continue around the island taking in the lush, fertile rolling hills of the island's heart to the craggy, heather-covered moorlands of the north and the delightful sandy beaches around the coastline. Allow time for photo stops at the stunning bays of Scalpsie and Ettrick.

Day 5 Homeward journey.
